"I Don't Remember" - a poem

I don't remember the first time I lied. Maybe on a playground somewhere.

Maybe I had gotten into a fight and when asked, "Who started this!?"

I said that he had. Maybe I had gotten him to throw the first punch.

Maybe I had thrown the first punch.

I don't remember the first time I lied, but I may not regret doing it.

It was probably to get me out of a jam.

I don't remember the first time I lied, but when you ask me if I love you

And I say no, you know I am lying.

When I lie with another women, I tell her

I couldn't lie with another women, and they lie back and laugh

And forget about when they had first lied.

I do remember the first truth ever spoke was to admit you had lied

So I remembered to always have an alibi.

And here's the thing. I remember a lot of things, but this I don't remember.

I don't remember the first time I lied, or maybe I am lying to myself about it.
